Publishing websites without .Mac!
Another tip about how to use your Mac without .Mac. iWeb was really created around .Mac and the one-click way of publishing a website is done with .Mac. iWeb is still a fantastic website design application and you can basically do everything without a .Mac account with the "Publish to a folder" function. Apple didn't really have the choice of including this kind of feature because they couldn't have advertised iWeb as a full application if it required a subscription. There are still a lot of people who buy .Mac because of this kind of one-click publishing that is much more elegant than being stuck with dealing with the FTP upload of the folder created by iWeb. A developer came to the rescue by creating this cool app that makes publishing to a server other than .Mac that much more easier. The application is "Easy iWeb Publisher 1.4". You just have to enter the FTP address with the username and password. There are many options, including per example the upload of only the files that changed. You can save this configuration and next time you upload, it will ask you to choose the configuration within a list of your websites. Screenshot:
Easy iWeb Publisher is a free download and it is available here on MacUpdate.

What is the easiest way of getting an FTP? I guess I'm having trouble knowing which site to update it with. Where should I get a website from?
If you're just looking for a FTP program, then have a look at Transmit from Panic.com
So, will this allow me to publish my iweb website?
I wish I knew more about this...
Sorry for all the questions!
I've been working on this all night and finally found a site that offers a free FTP. I got mine up and working, take a look.

I'm in love. I was so worried because my .mac account expires on the 5th!
Again, thanks for an awesome tip!
diogo: It is an easier one-click solution. If you already have Transmit or Yummy FTP, you probably don't need this, but this is an easy free alternative.

I have to agree with diogo, we should really be dissuading people from using ftp for anything other than large file downloads. SFTP/SCP/etc should be the only recommendations in this day and age.
how do you use this?

I have been looking everywhere online to find out where I can get a hosted page from to publish my site online.
I found one on zendurl.com but it won't work

Try your ISP, most internet connections come with some limited web space these days.
Once again, THANK YOU for this timely tip! Like most things, it is easy once you know how!
Also, A PICTURE IS WORTH A 1000 WORDS and no more so than in this (for me, rather difficult) procedure.
Can anyone help me...I am new to the web thing. I have a iweb site built and I have a website purchased through godaddy.com, but I still can't figure out how to use the easy iweb publisher to get it online...anyone? aaron.stroman@gmail.com
Thanks for the tip! Do you happen to know how to take my iWeb blog to blogspot?? I see you use Blogspot, so I thought I'd ask.
Tiffany: I don't think it is possible. Blogspot only lets you use the included templates. You can also edit the HTML in the built-in interface. I don't think there is any way of uploading a website.

Aaron Stroman: GoDaddy must have provided you with an FTP address with a username and password if you bought a full hosting kit (not just a domain name). You only have to paste this FTP address with your username and password in this app.

I love Iweb, but don't want to pay for .mac I cannot figure this program out although it seems awesome. Is there a super simple way to do this that even a stupid person could understand? like 1. download this. 2. go to this site. 3. click on this to get ftp or sftp. 4. enter name and password. 5. cut and paste to iweb organizer...? any step by step explanation would be helpful if you have the time for the ftp challenged.
Thanks for the tip on this cool app.
I just let my .mac account expire because I wanted a little more freedom in my web hosting/posting.
This is exactly what I need.
Thanks! This is just what I was looking for!
Hey umm... is there anyway to post an iWeb site to a weebly account? :s Or any free website hoster?
