More specific Spotlight searches!
A great tip submitted by Kush Patel: More specific Spotlight searches! Spotlight searches are sometimes not as good as they should, especially if you have a lot of files with similar names. It is possible to narrow the results down by specifying the type of file you are looking for by adding "kind:type of file". Here is an example showing a search of all the applications that contain "itu":
Thanks for the great tip Kush!

What are some others besides 'application'. Does it take arguments such as document? Any others? Can you abbreviate to just app or doc?

Spotlight separates the results in different sections by the type of file. You can use any of these types as a "kind". I tried it with abbreviations and it seems to work.

For me this dosn't work ... why?
For the people with Dutch Mac OS X, use 'soort' instead of 'kind' and use for example 'programma' or 'pdf' or 'doc'
you can also add next to it a specific time....ie "kind:application date:yesterday" This will bring all of the apps used the previous day
admin: Make sure you don't leave a space inbetween the "kind: applications" That is wrong! make sure its likes THIS>>> "kind:applications" otherwise it won't work!
Other examples:
Folder
Document
Event
To do

Music
Movie

Can you search by size criteria?
For Spanish Mac OS X, use 'clase' instead of 'kind' and use for example 'aplicación' ...
For itunes: (clase:aplicación itu / clase:app itu)
Hi, thanks for this tip!
Since reading this, i'm asking myself wether it is possible to define my own kinds (e.g. to have something more specific than "Documents")
Does any one know wether this is possible and how it is done?
Thanks in advance,
