Display a folder icon for Stacks!

There was a workaround a while back that explained how to avoid having Stacks that never look the same. Apple really fixed this in 10.5.2 and I think it is one of the biggest improvement in this update. There is now a new option that will let you choose how to display a stack. The options are "Folder" or "Stack". The "stack" looks just like it always did since 10.5.0, but the "folder" actually brings the folder icon look to the stacks. It can easily be changed by right-clicking on the stack:

I selected two options:

Display as: Folder
View content as: List

One problem persists - I am unable to right-click any items in the folder.

I downloaded the "drawers" a while back when I got frustrated by the stacks. And truthfully, I got used to them and now really like them. Especially for my downloads folder, which I usually keep empty, the transparent drawer allowed me to see what was in there. The folder option is great for things that don't change like apps and docs, for downloads I'll stick with the drawer workaround.

I think the drawer workaround is a brilliant look for stacks, and I'd like to see it for other folders too, such as my "drop box" on my desktop.

Apple should figure out who came up with it first, buy the idea off of them, and make it an option for every folder.

"Where does one find 'drawers'?", he asked, for he had taken night classes.

It starts with TUAW ( and you can actually download the drawers here ( Basically, you drop the icon into the folder and when you sort by date or name it shows up first in your stacks. So it looks like a transparent drawer in your stacks. Very cool.
