Uploading to YouTube!

Many video formats will work for uploading to YouTube, but there are ways to get the best quality possible once uploaded and the smallest file to upload. If you want your video to have the "watch in high quality" link just under it, you'll have to upload the video at 640x480 or 640x360 for widescreen. I usually encode the video using H.264, but set the quality to High. I don't want to compress it too much, because YouTube will recompress the video using a different compression format. I use AAC 128 kbps for audio. The framerate works best at 30 fps because YouTube drops half the frames to reduce the file size. It will end up being 15 fps. Unfortunately, the majority of my videos are shot at 24 fps and they end up being compressed by YouTube to 12 fps. Here is a screenshot of the settings that I use:

Is that iMovie you are using to export them? Quicktime Pro? (I'll be using EyeTV which can probably do those settings.)

The screenshot is for QuickTime Pro. iMovie has a preset for YouTube so it should be easier. ProApps can export using "QuickTime export" so you get everything QuickTime Pro can do. I am not sure how EyeTV works (don't have it, sorry), but if there is an option for QuickTime export, it is the way to go.

Great tip for Youtube!
Can you recommend settings for playing full screen video on a standard definition projector.

I currently export 'full quality DV' but the files are massive.
