Logging in more quickly!

This is a tip that I found by accident that is so useful, but so simple. When you start up your Mac, if you don't have the automatic login, it will display a window with a list of all the accounts on that computer. At first, it doesn't look like there is a quick way of logging in using only the keyboard. It is not like a regular dialog box, so having the "Full Keyboard Access" for "All Controls" won't help. The truth is that it couldn't be easier. You simply have to press the first letter of the name of the account that you want to log into. It will highlight that specific account and you now have to press "Enter". You are then ready to enter your password as usual. This also works with the fast user switching login window.

I think taht the "full keyboard access" thing doesn't work there not because it's not a regular dialog box, but because that setting is per-user and that box isn't under any user with that setting (or any user at all)

I would agree with everybody who's said that they knew this already. Give the guy a break though. He has to come up with a tip every day. He has to have some bad ones. (Along with some good ones.) You might not have known this, but, not everybody does. They just pass by it whenever they log in.

However, what nobody's mentioned is that if you have two users which have the same first letter --Abigail and Aragorn -- then you can type the first two letters. "ar" instead of typing "a" and then scrolling down.

I'm a new mac user, a computer geek, and I didn't know about this tip..

So maybe people who've known tips for years are a different (and harder to please) audience than ones like me who didn't have years with a mac. So if this blog tries to please THEM, then WE're left behind.

(again, I'm not talking tech dummies - as I've been programming since I was 7, in 1988 - I'm talking mac newbies) (well, actually, in 1988 I had an Apple ][ but you know what I mean)

My gosh, seems like you all need to take a deep breath. If this is a frustration to you, and you need to save a nano second, I hope you are never behind me on the highway.
