Webcam support in MSN!

If you are coming from the PC world, you'll be disappointed to see that the Mac version of Microsoft Messenger doesn't support the webcam. There are many alternatives (iChat and particularly Skype) that I think are even better, but unfortunately, if your friends are on MSN, that is where you need to be. There is now one solution for getting webcam support for MSN on the Mac (excluding Boot Camp, Parallel and Fusion). It is aMSN. It really isn't as nice as Adium, but it does the job. In my experience, it isn't as stable as it should be but it is still fully useable. You can learn more or download aMSN here from MacUpdate.

I'm on a MacBook with Leopard (10.5.2), but I can't get the webcam to work with aMSN. I can receive video from my friends who are on PC's, but they can't see what I'm sending them. It;s a white screen and a connection error, if I recall correctly. Skype works like a charm, of course.

I've been using aMSN for a while and I dont think it is the best option for cam. When I started to use it, it worked perfectly, but after some OSX update I started getting this "white screen" problem and sometimes couldnt even connect the cam. WHEN it works, it is the best, smooth and fast. But you cant rely on it, cuz you never know when it is gonna work. I can always see my friends cams but sometimes even friends that were able to see my cam before get a white screen... :/ So if I REALLY need to use cam, I switch to Mercury, which has an ugly interface and a very bad cam but works everytime... :/

You can go in Audio/Video chat in Adium too, using your web cam and your mic.
There's a plugin named MEBEAM, you can download it from the plugin section in ADIUM site.
When you install it you can go in Audio/Video chat with others contacts using this plugin and goin' in a "room" inside your browser.
It's not bad. Try it.

I downloaded the latest Yahoo Messenger and it has an option webcam. The quality is not so great but it works fine and easy. In Yahoo Messenger, you can also chat with the hotmail-people. So maybe it is a good alternative for aMSN or whatever :-)

I still don't get why microsoft still refuses to put webcam support in their MSN. The fact that their Mac version of MSN messenger is so bad is not going to make me go back to a PC, in fact it just makes me hate them more. I just find it impossible that they cannot create a messenger app with the most basic features (let's face it webcam has become basic now a days). Even without the webcam I have found that their version is not as stable as it should or could be.
On the other hand there might be a more complicated reason for the webcam and stability issues that I might not know about, so if anyone does, let us know.

Does anyone have a problem with ichat and the new OS X operating system. Does anyone get the following message "could not connect to aim, you have attempted to log in to often in a short period of time. wait a few minutes before trying to log in again". Does anyone know how to fix it or is there a solution already from apple??

Nothing I've come across can measure up to the simplicity, stability and charm of SKYPE. Highly recommended! (skype.com)

For me Skype does all the job. I use that along with MSN. Both works fine and, what the hell, you don't need the camera all the time!
I used Mercury, but at the end, I decided to stay with MSN.
