Scrolling up or down in a web browser!

The easiest shortcut to scroll down without the mouse in a web browser is the space bar (tested in Safari, Firefox and Camino). One thing that always annoyed me about this shortcut is that I had to resort to the mouse to scroll back up. It is possible to modify it slightly however, and use it to scroll up. The shortcut is "Shift-Space Bar". The only problem about this shortcut is that if the cursor is currently in a text box, it won't work.

Another alternative is using 'page up' and 'page down' keys which function the same way as the 'space bar' tips.

Also, using 'home' and 'end' are handy. The former takes you back to the top of the page and the latter takes you to the end of the page.

Not a lot of intellect to figure that last bit out but some people just never think about using those keys. I didn't, at first anyway.

Also, if you are using an Apple keyboard that doesn't have 'page up' and 'page down' OR 'home' and 'end', you can use Option + up or down to scroll. And if you want to go all the way to the top or bottom of the page, press Command + up or down.

I use the space bar trick all the time. However, every since I updated to Leopard, if I type a space in a text box, Safari will scroll down. It's like Safari doesn't recognize that I'm in a text box.

Has anybody else been having this problem? I've already reinstalled the system and I can't think of anything else to do.

BTW, I'm running an iBook G4 @ 1 Ghz.

I place two fingers on the touch pad and can easily scroll as if using a mouse.
